We invested $25,000 in ISP pilot funds into the Perinatal Research Biorepository (PRB) project under the leadership of Drs. Elin Grundberg, Children's Mercy Kansas City & Megha Ramaswamy, University of Kansas Medical Center. The PRB collects and provides human specimens and related clinical data to enhance perinatal translational research and ultimately, improve the quality of pregnancy by positively impacting maternal, fetal, and postnatal health. Specifically, this project aimed to: (1) Identify early genetic/epigenetic markers predicting neonatal abstinence syndrome (2) Analyze the role of the placenta in fetal exposure to opioids and (3) Develop policy strategies to improve health outcomes in women with opioid use disorders.
