Guide to implementing your protocol with CTSU Rainbow
To help you get the most out of our services through every phase of your research project, we've prepared a CTSU user guide, which covers these areas:

Capabilities and Resources
The Rainbow CTSU is located on the main University of Kansas Medical Center campus in Kansas City, Kansas. The unit is staffed by experienced research nurses, medical assistants, and respiratory technicians who support complex protocol procedures and document data on CTSU generated resource documents/flow sheets.
Clinical Space
- 11 exam rooms for multi-purpose outpatient evaluations (2 can be utilized as procedure rooms)
- Quiet room or cognitive testing room
- 2 phlebotomy bays
- 2 visiting study staff work rooms
- Space for site monitor visits and conference room for study initiation visits or larger meetings
- Research/education kitchen
- Negative pressure room
- Storage area for study teams to store protocol specific equipment and supplies
Sample Processing Laboratory (CLIA waived)
- 2 labs for conducting point-of-care tests such as urine pregnancy or blood glucose tests
- Sample processing and short-term storage (refrigerated centrifuges, -80F freezers, -20F freezers, refrigerators, incubators, etc.)
Research Infusion Unit
- 6 infusion bays with 6 reclining infusion chairs, 2 televisions, and Wi-Fi
- TUKHS Investigational Pharmacy is located on the ground floor of the main hospital
- ·Flex space for visiting Investigators
Pulmonary Testing Laboratory
- Respiratory Technician available to assist with study related tasks
- Spirometry with/without bronchodilator
- Plethysmography: Lung Volume
- Diffusing Capacity (DLCO)
- Fractional exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO)
- Bronchial Provocation with methacholine challenge
- Sputum induction (% sputum eosinophils)
- 6-minute walk test
Exercise Physiology Testing
- Exercise testing-treadmill and exercise bike
- Physical function testing
- Resting metabolic rate
