Guide to KUMC CTSU Wichita

To serve the unique needs of researchers and participants, the KUMC Clinical and Translational Science Unit (CTSU) Wichita is located in Wichita, KS at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. This facility is staffed with experienced research nurses, pharmacists, a recruiter, a regulatory coordinator, clinical research coordinators and investigators who support complex protocol procedures and record research data on CTSU-generated resource documents/flow sheets.
- 2 exam rooms for multi-purpose outpatient evaluations
- Work areas for visiting study teams
- Lab and nursing support, including:
- Blood and urine sample collection and processing
- ECG
- Height/weight, including a medical wheelchair scale
- Vital signs
- IV placement
- Urine pregnancy testing
- Urinalysis dipstick
- Spirometry
- Administration of study medication (IV, SQ, IM, oral, nasal and topical)
- Reclining infusion and phlebotomy chairs
- Wi-Fi
- Storage for study specific equipment and/or supplies
- Investigational pharmacy
- Biosafety cabinet
- Secured and temperature monitored refrigerators and ambient storage for IP.
- CTSU staff can conduct point-of-care tests such as urine pregnancy or blood glucose tests.
- Sample processing and short-term storage (ambient and refrigerated centrifuges, secured and temperature monitored -80F freezers, -20F freezers, refrigerator, and ambient storage)
- CTSU Wichita is available to support clinical research investigators for studies on the Wichita campus. This involves assistance with study startup and operationalization, including administrative oversight and training of investigators and site staff.
- CTSU Wichita staff can support investigators by taking on the study roles of recruitment, performing study visits and maintaining regulatory documentation.
