Amanda Emerson, Ph.D., RN, has received the prestigious Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators at the University of California Davis. Emerson, who finishes her Frontiers Clinical and Translational Science KL2 program June 30, 2024, joins the fifth cohort of the fellowship program, which is funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
The competitive fellowship program selects early- to mid-career nursing scholars and innovators and provides $450,000 in funding over three years for an innovative project or study plus $50,000 for their home institution. During the three-year program, fellows remain at their home institutions, participate in an online learning community, then gather annually at UC Davis for a week-long convocation.
During her fellowship, Emerson will continue to focus on barriers to health equity in populations affected by criminal legal system involvement.
“I’m looking forward to learning more about how to take my research centered on older women aging in the community after incarceration and move it towards policymaking,” Emerson said. “This is a unique opportunity not only to grow as a community-engaged researcher but also to hone my voice and enhance my network. I want the research I do with women to make an impact. I see the Betty Moore program as a way to develop the tools to make happen.”
Emerson begins her fellowship on July 1, 2024.
