Development and Pilot Testing of a Mental Health Intervention for Parents of Children with Pediatric Feeding Disorder
Dana Bakula, Ph.D. from Children’s Mercy Kansas City, participated as a scholar in the KL2program. Her research project titled "Development and Pilot Testing of a Mental Health Intervention for Parents of Children with Pediatric Feeding Disorder" was conducted in the Gastroenterology Department under the guidance of Ann Davis, Ph.D., MPH, ABPP. This project commenced started on July 1, 2022, and concluded on April 30, 2024.
During her second year as a KL2 scholar, Bakula led a research project adapting a brief mental health intervention for parents of children with pediatric feeding disorder, with 27 out of 30 participants recruited and completed. She has achieved notable milestones, including a K23 resubmission with an impact score of 20, a $350,000 grant from the Gerber Foundation, and publication of 10 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Additionally, she has presented extensively at national and international conferences, been appointed co-director of the Interdisciplinary Feeding and Swallowing Program at Children's Mercy, and continued to enhance her skills through various trainings and hands-on experiences in clinical trial conduct and mixed-methods research.
