These presentations include innovations, grant proposals, business plans and investor pitches. All meetings are virtual and free to attend.   Join us at our monthly Digital Health Seminar, an open, interdisciplinary R&D meeting hosted by the Digital Health Co/Lab at the University of Kansas. The April 23 meeting will include a presentation by Russell Ball, founder of MyHealthSentry: Getting People to Take a Long-Term Approach to their Health What if we approached our health the same way we approach financial retirement planning—by aggressively accumulating essential health assets like lean muscle mass, VO₂ max, and bone density decades before we enter our marginal years? Could we make more meaningful progress in reducing the prevalence of chronic diseases by adopting a longer-term view—one that encourages people to prevent incremental damage to their bodies over time? These questions led me to launch a startup focused on helping people better understand their risk factors for chronic disease, frailty, and reduced healthspan. In this presentation, I’ll share the approach I’ve taken so far, my vision for the future, and my thoughts on tackling one of the most stubborn challenges in health improvement, especially if you extend the time horizon: motivation. The presentation will be followed by Q/A and open discussion. These seminars provide a unique platform for innovators at all career stages to present their work, including innovations, grant proposals, business plans, and investor pitches. Participants will benefit from invaluable feedback from experienced professionals. You can see all upcoming meetings, and if you or a colleague would like to present at a future session, please complete the intake form by visiting our website.   Apr 24 12:00 PM • KU Lawrence campus 2025 Spring Mock Study Section Letters of Intent are due Feb. 21. This monthly series highlights information, resources and advancements in clinical and translational research. A panel discussion on inclusive language in research and healthcare is a valuable opportunity to learn about the importance of using respectful and accurate language when addressing issues of race and sex/gender. Inclusive language acknowledges the diversity and complexity of human identities and experiences, and avoids stereotypes, assumptions, and erasure.  The panel discussion will feature: Education on inclusive language (such as race and sex/gender) in research and in healthcare  Practical tips on how to use inclusive thinking and language in creating research questions, study proposals, and healthcare interventions How to implement inclusive thinking and language in healthcare settings The panel will also address common challenges and questions that may arise when using inclusive language and offer strategies to overcome them.   Apr 24 01:00 PM • Virtual University of Pittsburgh Institute for Clinical Research Education is hosting the National Speaker Series Event KL2/K12 NATIONAL SPEAKER SERIES Navigating Uncertain Times with Core Values as Your Guide with Amery Treble-Barna, PhD, PC Cl May 01 02:00 PM • KUMC Beller Conference Center KUMC Internal Medicine Division of Geriatrics and the Landon Center on Aging: Geroscience Spring Symposium May 15 03:00 PM • Hybrid Innovations in Quality Forum: Generative AI – Disruptions and Advances in Healthcare Jun 09 09:00 AM • Children's Mercy Research Institute and Virtual Genomic Medicine Short Course 2025 Next generation sequencing has had a profound impact on biomedical research. Clinicians and scientists seeking to stay abreast of the field may be challenged by the rapid rate of genomic discovery and technologic advancement. The Children's Mercy Kansas City Genomic Medicine Center, with support of the NIH, offers a four-day CME/CEU program in translational genomics. Topics include: Technical and analytic aspects of DNA and RNA sequencing Variant analysis Gene regulation and epigenetics Single cell sequencing Clinical and ethical implications of genomics The course features workshops to teach NGS analysis skills. A unique aspect of the program is the opportunity for enrollees to have genomic sequencing completed on themselves. Participants can use the resultant data file as they learn variant identification and characterization. This strategy, known as Personalized Genomic Educational Testing (PGET) is optional and provided at no additional cost. This program is supported by the NHGRI Initiative to Maximize Research Education in Genomics: Courses for Skills Development (R25) program. REGISTRATION In person and virtual attendance options are available.
