The Penn State CTSI Community Engagement Team is pleased to host an educational workshop focused on conducting research in rural populations. Please join us in welcoming Kristina Brant, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Rural Sociology and Social Science Research Institute Co-Funded Faculty Member, and Florence Becot, Ph.D., Nationwide Insurance Early Career Professor and Agricultural Safety and Health Program Lead. Our speakers will share their expertise and firsthand experiences working with rural communities.
During this session, participants will:
Explore the importance of research in rural communities
Examine real-world examples of research conducted among rural populations
Discuss best practices and lessons learned from engaging with rural communities

The 2026 Frontiers CTSI Research Symposium will have keynote speaker Paul Estabrooks, Ph.D., from the University of Utah as we focus on the theme of Dissemination and Implementation Science.
The day begins with Speed Mentoring (registration required) before we hear from Dr. Estabrooks, followed by breakout sessions, a panel discussion and two poster sessions.
This is a great opportunity to network with your colleagues from all of our partner institutions and see posters from the next generation of investigators with high school and undergraduate students presenting posters.
