October Open Forum on Biostatistics

Date/Time: Oct 20, 2023, 01:30 PM to Oct 20, 2023, 02:30 PM

Location: Virtual

The Open Forum on Biostatistics is a service provided by the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) function of Frontiers, our institutions Clinical and Translational Science Institute.  The purpose of this forum is to provide investigators with an opportunity to ask questions related to BERD topic areas.  These may relate to research and training, and the forum provides a new avenue to connect with colleagues in support of the research and education missions of the BERD function of Frontiers.  This meeting is open to staff and faculty from all Frontiers Partner Institutions.

You can email BERD navigator Megan Tremblay mtremblay@kumc.edu if you have any questions prior to the forum.

The forum will be hosted by two biostatisticians of the BERD function of Frontiers.

Join us to celebrate the launch of the 10x Genomics Xenium In Situ and Visium CytAssist platforms at the Integrative Imaging and Genomics Cores! We will highlight how 10x Genomics Single Cell and Spatial platforms can help you expand the boundaries of your research. Dissect cell-type differences, investigate the innate and adaptive immune system, detect novel subtypes and biomarkers, and map the epigenetic landscape cell by cell. Uncover molecular insights from fresh or fixed samples, including FFPE, with robust, flexible workflows that simplify experimental logistics. Unravel highly complex biological systems, while bringing into focus the details that matter most. You’ll see presentations from 10x technical experts and learn how you can get started with your own Single Cell, Visium Spatial, or Xenium projects through the core. Lunch will be provided with advanced registration, see link below. A special pilot program will be announced at the end of the event. Epic is an EHR platform that has a strong commitment to innovation through iterative collaboration with our community of stakeholders. This community includes organizations using our software, patient/participant/consumer advisory groups, consortia and workgroups focused on a range of aspects of clinical research and trials, as well as our own teams. In this presentation we’ll share some of the ways our platform has effectively accelerated recruitment and enhanced representation and retention in clinical trials. Both past successes and new opportunities to impact the trial landscape will be discussed. Jul 12 08:00 AM • Lied Auditorium, KU Medical Center Campus, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas. Introduction to Biostatistics for Clinical & Translational Research - July 12 The KUMC Department of Biostatistics & Data Science, with support from the University of Kansas Cancer Center and Frontiers, offers this free four-day program in biostatistical methods for clinical and translational researchers. Biostatistics plays a critical role in clinical and translational research, influencing everything from study design to results interpretation. Clinicians and scientists should have a basic understanding of biostatistics to support critical appraisal of research, collaboration, communication, and evidence-based practice.  Biostatistical skills can empower researchers to participate more actively in shaping study design and analysis to ensure clinically relevant and feasible research questions, reduce the risk of bias, and improve research efficiency. Topics include: Scientific Rigor and Reproducibility Hierarchy of Study Design and Scientific Evidence Hypothesis Testing and Estimation Common Statistical Methods (Student’s t, Chi-square, ANOVA, Linear regression, Logistic regression, Survival analysis) Jul 17 11:00 AM • Virtual Trial Innovation Network Webinar: Striking the Balance: Integrating Innovative Technology and Personalized Engagement in Clinical Trials Recruitment Striking the Balance: Integrating Innovative Technology and Personalized Engagement in Clinical Trials Recruitment Siobhan Vasquez, BS, CCRP,  Fred Stevenson, RN, MSN, FNP & Tiffany Norris, BS Are you tired of recruiting in an inefficient way? Have you used an exorbitant amount of platforms to do your job? Too many steps to the process? Supercharge your clinical trials recruitment efforts! This webinar will discuss ways to overcome challenges using the UC Davis Clinical Trials Recruitment Program model. Learn about personalized consultations and creating an all-inclusive environment for study teams and PIs. Explore Studypages, a powerful platform to streamline recruitment and participant management. Our goal is that attendees will gain practical strategies, toolkits, and fresh ideas for participant identification and engagement.  Jul 18 03:00 PM • In-person and Virtual Innovations in Quality: Rapid Rise and Promise of Remote Patient Monitoring For more information and to register, visit the link below.  Jul 19 08:00 AM • Lied Auditorium, KU Medical Center Campus, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas.
